Did you know that, even though elderberry syrup is pretty popular and “trendy” these days, the medicinal use of elderberries and flowers dates back centuries? In fact, Hippocrates referenced it in his writing in 400 BC! And there is evidence that cultivation of the elder shrub goes back even further to thousands of years BC.
There are many different elderberry syrups out there. This particular batch includes both elderberries and elderflowers. The berries help to strengthen the immune system and reduce inflammation, while the flowers serve as an anti-inflammatory and a diaphoretic for fever support.
When using elderberry syrup for general immune system health, the recommended amount is 1 tablespoon a day. If you are actively fighting off a cold or flu, take smaller amounts more frequently—1/2-1 teaspoon every hour.
This syrup is so delicious you can stir it into seltzer for a homemade soda, drizzle it over pancakes, or stir it into yogurt. There are so many ways to enjoy this healthful elixir!
